If you own a directory then is it a paid one or a free one? I have couple of directories with decent PR and they both are paid for featured and regular links but I have kept the reciprocal links are free. How about you?

If i have a directory firstly i would go for free links then after 1-2 months or after a pr update i would change it to paid links. This way you can earn more members and at the same time you can easily earn money with paid users.

In my experience, if you want to have a paid directory you should start paid. Having a free directory with paid featured links works but it takes much more effort to edit. Starting free then switching to paid just lowers the value to the submitters you are asaking to pay. You are better off filling the categories yourself with only the strongest sites that will actually help your site establish itself as an trusted source.

With free submission, you are making more and more people to come to your directory. This would help to increase the traffic. How can you ask someone to pay for you, if no one comes to your directory.
In the begining, you have to list free submission. Once you have adequte number of listings and visitors, and have some reputation among the webmasters, you can ask for only paid listings. |

Yes, mostly majority ask for free listings this days. Also agree of the fact that no one would want to get listed on directories with low PR and low credibility online. So it is better to create credibility so that webmasters will have the reason to ask in getting listed on your directory.
There are a lot of free directory online, so why choose paid ones. ![]() |
