Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a stylesheet language used to describe the presentation of a document written in a markup language. Its most common application is to style web pages written in HTML and XHTML, but could also be applied to XML files.

CSS organizes all of your mark up into style sheets. This allows your pages to load much faster and for you to make wholesale changes very quickly. It is not really a replacement for html or xhtml but rather a way to organize it.

CSS was introduced to give an uniformity to the web pages. Advantage of CSS is that you define a style for a perticular tag and every tag is given the same stule. It also gives flexibility to change the design and style of the page.

CSS is a Cascading Style Sheet. I always prefer it because of its simplicity amd stability. If you want to change any features of your website template like you want to add sidebar or you want to change colors then go for CSS file only.

[1] it makes your site look better.
[2] loads it much faster.
[3] saves space (css stylesheets).
[4] faster updating styles of your pages (you dont have to go through every page to edit the style).
[5] easy to use.

Also CSS can vbe used to entirely change a site. With HTML or XHTML you can make basic sites but the CSS adds that 1 more significant grain....
