There are so many companies providing webhostin servies these days and all are competing over price and basic services like diskspace, etc. What would be the criteria to select a good webhost?

My first preferenec is for priec. Second for speed. No matter how cheap the host is, if it is slow ur site is going to be of no use. So after finding a host with enough price have a look at the speed of the server. Finally have a loo kat the bandwidth they offer.

The first thing you should have in your mind is that the uptime, many hosting fails to provide this, that is where many paid hosting rocks, one of them is byethost.org, in free hosting the best hosting is 1majorhost.com, I use both of them for my sites, both of them are really rocking !

well when i'm looking for a host... price/storage it's more important for me... at some you get unlimited domain names too, maybe few domains for free:
This is the host that i like the most: www.hostmonster.com => 300 GB of space 3TB of Traffic and free domain name forever |

I do agree with Zane that before you decide about the hosting company, you should know your requirements and then you can shop around in order to check that which company is fulfilling your requirements. Upon her suggestion i do check the specifications according to my requirements and rates from "www.drupalvaluehosting.com". So i think, they are offering excellent services with affordable rates, that's why i am going to swtich my hosting service very soon.
